As the COVID-19 pandemic develops, if outbreaks lead to community lockdowns, city lockdowns, island closures, or national border shutdowns, while the general public practices home isolation, we must also care for those who lack indoor offices to isolate themselves and must labor outside under the scorching sun.
Today in the news, I saw construction site workers being fined by police for taking off masks to smoke or eating bento boxes while sitting on the roadside because indoor dining was banned. These workers must operate in unsafe outdoor environments, yet no tailored solutions were considered for their real situations, leaving them penalized under rigid regulations.
Perhaps the following design solution could serve as reference:
Portable restroom providers could modify their units by installing folding tables and chairs on the walls inside each compartment, built-in with UVC disinfection lamps. Once a worker finishes smoking or dining inside and exits, the door automatically locks for five minutes for UVC sterilization before resetting for the next occupant.
Furthermore, roll-style disposable towels could be installed on the table surface, automatically advancing a fresh towel for the next person after each use.
