Apple’s built-in “Photos” app across platforms is a compact yet capable tool for daily photo viewing and editing. Features like drawing directly on images and adding handwritten signature watermarks are already fantastic.
However, several common features essential for photography and content creation workflows are still missing from “Photos,” which is quite unfortunate.
Below is a list of practical features that could be added to “Photos.” These additions would not make the app bloated or overly complex, but would greatly enhance convenience for creators:
- Image resizing options;
- Flexible choice of file formats for saving or exporting (e.g., JPEG, PNG);
- Customizable lossy compression ratio controls;
- Ability to upload custom images as watermarks;
- Fix layer hierarchy priority in the “Markup” tool (text boxes should display on top of brush strokes rather than being covered by lines or shapes);

While third-party apps can handle these tasks, having these features natively built into the primary photo app on phones and tablets would be by far the best option. Opening external apps wastes time and system resources. Editing 5 or 10 photos at once via third-party software makes the workflow tedious and frustratingly time-consuming.
Hopefully, Apple will consider developing these small features to make macOS and iOS even more seamless.
